The most damage to skis is often done not in the mountains but in the storage room: skis left uncleaned, damp and without wax over the summer rust, and their bases dry out. Storage waxing solves this – in the fall your skis are prepared faster and for less.

What is storage waxing?

Storage waxing means sharpening the edges and applying a thick layer of wax, which we do not scrape off or polish. This wax acts as a protective film: it stops the base from drying out and the edges from rusting. In autumn the excess wax is removed and the base is polished – and your skis are ready again.

Why is storage waxing worth it?

• edges don’t rust – rust „eats” the steel, and later the edges have to be sharpened deeper;
• the base doesn’t dry out – a dried-out base turns grayish and absorbs wax worse;
• cheaper preparation in autumn – after storage waxing, a standard tune for skis costs 14 / 22 € (the price is set by the technician after assessing the condition of the edges);
• fewer worries at the start of the season – your skis are waiting ready, and all that’s left is to remove the protective wax.

How we do storage waxing

1. We clean dirt and leftover season wax off the base.
2. We check for damage – if there is any, we offer to fix it now, before the rush of the season gets in the way.
3. We sharpen the edges so that no nicks or rust spots are left on them.
4. We coat the base and edges with a thick layer of wax and do not scrape it off.

How should you store skis in summer?

• store them in a dry, cool place – not next to a radiator and not in a damp basement;
• protect them from direct sunlight;
• fasten the skis with straps, but don’t squeeze them too tightly;
• buckle ski boot buckles loosely so the boots keep their shape.

When is the best time to bring skis in for storage waxing?

As soon as possible after your last trip – before the edges have had time to rust. We do storage waxing all year round.

Can skis stored in autumn be taken straight to the mountains?

No – the thick protective wax has to be removed and the base polished. We do this as part of a standard tune after storage waxing (14 / 22 €).
