One unnoticed rock – and a gouge appears in the base. A surface scratch usually just worsens glide, but deep damage down to the core lets moisture get inside the ski. A base repaired in time will serve for many more seasons.

What kinds of base damage are there?
- Surface scratches – fine scratches that usually disappear with grinding and waxing.
- Deep gouges – cuts into the base that haven’t reached the core; they are filled with P-Tex.
- Damage down to the core – the layer under the base is visible; this must be repaired so that moisture doesn’t get inside.
- Damage near the edge – a chipped area next to the steel or a bent edge; the technician assesses this kind of repair separately.
Not sure whether the damage is serious? Bring your skis in to show us – the technician will assess them and tell you whether they are worth repairing and how much it will cost, before starting any work.
How we repair the base
- Cleaning. We remove dirt and old wax – otherwise P-Tex won’t bond to the base.
- Preparation. We trim away splinters and loose, lifting edges around the damage.
- Filling. We fill the damaged area with P-Tex, which fuses with the base.
- Leveling. We remove the excess and level the surface with the rest of the base; to remove fine scratches, the entire surface may be ground.
- Edge and wax. If needed, we fix the base edge, and at the end we wax the base – the repaired area must be protected too.
Is it worth repairing?
Most of the time – yes. Base repair costs much less than new skis, and a well-repaired base glides just like before. One customer wrote in a review that we had their skis ready for a trip the very next day – we fixed the scratch from a fall at the same time.
Repair isn’t worth it only when the ski’s structure itself is damaged: a broken core, delaminated layers or a bent ski. The technician will tell you this after inspecting it.

Snowboard
- Base scratch / damage repairagreed with the technician before the repairfrom 7 €
The repair price depends on the size and number of damaged areas – the technician agrees on it with you before the repair. It’s also worth ordering a full service (from 22 €): a repaired base is still waxed, and the edges are tuned.
How to protect the base?
- when there’s little snow – in early winter and spring – avoid places where rocks and grass stick out;
- carry your skis fastened base to base – the edges won’t scratch each other;
- don’t leave wet skis in a closed bag – the edges will rust;
- wax regularly: wax protects the base from drying out and from fine scratches.
Frequently asked questions
Can a scratch be repaired at home?
Ordinary plastic or a candle doesn’t bond with the base and quickly falls out. P-Tex has to be properly melted in and leveled with the base – this is more reliably done at a service shop.
How long does base repair take?
It is usually done together with a service, so the turnaround time doesn’t change. If there is a lot of damage or it is extensive, the technician will tell you how long it will take.
Do you repair ski boots?
Yes – ski boot repair costs , and the technician agrees on the price before the repair.
